In the past few decades there have been some very beautiful rubies coming from Mozambique, as well as Afghanistan, Sri Lanka, Kenya and Tanzania to name but a few.
Ruby
Rubies are some of the most coveted gemstones. The word is derived from the Latin word for ‘Red’. Ruby is a part of the Corundum family, and it gets its colour thanks to the presence of Chromium. The earliest mining of Rubies occurred in Myanmar (formerly Burma), and for centuries, the Mogok area was responsible for mining the most extraordinary and vivid red rubies.
