Custom Jewellery Process

Bespoke Jewellery Design

We love working with our clients to create deeply personal, unique and precious heirloom pieces of jewellery. We create anything from Engagement Rings and Wedding Bands to redesigning Heirloom Jewellery into contemporary, wearable pieces. Each piece is unique, and Carla is personally involved in your design journey every step of the way.

When designing an Engagement Ring, we normally start by helping you pick a gemstone. You look through our section titled Precious Gemstones to see what options there are, or at our Lookbook to get some inspiration. At Courtesy of the Artist we have an incredible collection of Australian Sapphires and other incredible Australian gemstones that are available for our clients to use for their custom commissions.

Once you’ve picked a gemstone, I normally try to get a sense of what design style you like. We’ll discuss colour options for your piece of jewellery, including metal colour (Read more at our Precious Metals section) and accompanying gemstones.

Read through the different steps of the design and manufacture process, so that you know what to expect from the experience.

The Bespoke Process

Sketch

After we have sourced the Gemstones for your bespoke jewellery piece, we discuss different design options. I create sketches based on these conversations, and when you pick the design you like, we move on to the next step – Computer Rendering.

Computer Assisted Design

Once we have the design finalised and planned out, I go ahead and input all the gemstones into CAD (Computer Assisted Design). The metal is created around the gemstones, and we are able to get a 360 degree view of the ring – every angle.

The piece is then 3D Printed and worked off meticulously by hand. A inital polish is applied before the ring heads to the Master Setter. A setting for each gemstone is carefully carved out and the stones are carefully and securely set in place.
